Do you think animals should be allowed on the plane with passengers? Why do you think this?

Answer: I think that animals should be allowed on the plane because service animals should have the free will to go wherever the owner is and they should have at least a service animals seat so then they can do whatever they want in their own seats.

Stoneman Syndrome-Health

Hello everyone.

For this week in health, we have been learning about different types of medicines, and today we are learning about various passion areas. These include different types such as Werewolf Syndrome, Foreign Accent Syndrome, and many others. Our task for today is to research about them. For my topic, I have chosen to investigate the Stoneman Syndrome known as “Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressive”

What is Stoneman Syndrome?

Stoneman Syndrome is a long-term syndrome that occurs when a connective tissue disease which the syndrome mostly affects the muscle, tendons, and ligaments turns into bone tissue. It is said that this syndrome is sporadic and roughly 1 in 2 million people have this syndrome. It is the only known medical condition where one organ system changes into another. In most cases some minor injuries can cause joints to become permanently fused as the new bone forms, replacing the damaged muscle tissue.

Here is a photo of The Stoneman Syndrome:

How It Impacts Our Hauora

Having this type of syndrome impacts most of our hauora. For example, this can impact our mental health because having this can make your bones probably damaged and it might feel weird because minor injuries can cause joints to become permanently fused as the new bone forms. But the negative side of this is that it might be also hard for you to move around. This is because as the new bones grow they will be uncomfortable and it impacts us when going outside for example and doing physical workouts outside because you will have to be careful if you get hit in the new growing bone.

Questions:

  1. Can this syndrome be cured?

Answer: No there is no possible cure for this syndrome.

2. How long can you live with Stoneman Syndrome?

Answer: Research says that you have live while having this for 4o years. So 40 years old is the limit.

3. How Many People Does Stoneman Syndrome Affect?

Answer: Currently it affects only 1 in 2 million people in the whole world.

Here is where I got my answers from:

Fun Fact: Did you know that Stoneman Syndrome (FOP) is progressive every day, which means over the years it will get worse and worse.

Safety & Medicine-Health

Hello everyone.

In health, we have been studying medicines. We learned that different kinds of medicine help with stomach aches, and headaches, and how they affect our hauroa. Our task for today is to give medicine advice safely to a teenager who can safely deal with medicine. Here is my work.

Medicine Safety

Here are some tips for medicine safety.

Read The Labels

Always make sure you read the label to find out if the medicine is for you. This is because so then you don’t get the wrong medicine. Be sure to always read the back and what it has inside them. You never know what might happen if you take the wrong medicine.

On-Time

Remember to always use the medicine on time. This is because most medicines have time to use it. For example, you might need to take a pill at night. If you don’t take the medicine on time your sickness would probably get worse if you don’t take it on time.

Taking Medicine

Be sure that you don’t take too much medicine. Taking too much might worsen and it is bad for you. For example, if the medicine says take twice a day you should do it. Be sure that you don’t take more because it is bad for your health and you will get worse. If your medicine is expired don’t throw it out. Instead in most cases give it to the doctors and they might be able to throw it out for you because medicine has their own bins instead of your everyday bins.

Out Of Reach

Always make sure that the medicine is out of reach for children. And to always close the lid because maybe a person might take it without looking at it. Be wise when you place your medicine. Put the medicine on a high self or somewhere secret. Don’t put your medicine in the bathroom because it can make your medicine warm and it is bad for you.

Have a great day!

1975 Maori Land March-Social Studies

Hello readers,

For this week for social studies we have been learning about different types of conflicts  around New Zealand. For today, our task to find a Maori significance event and answer the following questions. For my own research I have chose to learn about the 1975 Maori land march. For this I had to include what the event was about, why was it was important, the outcome of the event and many more.

Here is my work for today.

Traditional Maori Games-P.E

Hello everyone,

For this week for PE we have been learning how to play traditional Maori games. These games are called Te Uru, Tapuae and Ki O Rahi.

Kio O Rahi is a sport played by a ki (ball) and is it played by 2 teams which are the attacking team and the defence team. This game can be played indoor and outdoor. Each teams gets a turn for each role and will switch over.  The history is from the legend of Rahitutakahina and Tiarakurapakewai. The sport represents their  ancestors and our culture. The games are played with 14 players (7 player each side). The attacking team will need to hit the Pou with the kid in order to get a point. The requirements for this game are cones, ki and a pou Whoever has the most point wins the game.

Te Uru is a sport but it is engorged and celebrations close connections between other people. The main point of this game is to hit the cones using the ki in order to win. You will need to catch it with a palm hand in order to make it a goal. The requirements of players are 6 players and there are 2 teams the attacking team and the defence team (3 players each team) you will need a piece of Ti Kouka, a block a of wood and bibs for each team, and lastly cones

Tapuae is a traditional ball sport game. The history of this about Rahi. There are 2 teams the attacking teams and the defence team. In order to win is to hit the three targets to win. The requirements for this game is a bib (for each team), a cone, ki and a tennis ball.

Norse Funeral-Health Assessment

Hello everyone,

In Health we have been studying about Death, Dying and the Afterlife. We have learnt about people’s beliefs and their thoughts about the afterlife, traditions around death and how to deal with grief and many more. We have learnt how to take care of ourselves when dealing with the stages of grief.

Here is what I have learned for this unit.

For my chosen topic I have chosen to explain about the death around The Norse Funeral.

The Norse Funeral came about in the countries that we call today as Denmark, Sweden and lastly Norway. At that time and age it was the vikings era. In that period there were lots of death rituals and they were some involved with death burials and ship burials. In their death it is rumoured that they would use fire to burn off the people and to leave valuable things with them in their way towards the afterlife. An interesting piece of information that I have noticed was that sometimes stones were placed around the grave in the shape of a ship. They are very rare because if the deceased was a leader of an important figure they would bury them in a longboat.  After the bodies have turned into ashes they will begin to sacrifice an animal and pour the remaining blood onto the ash. All the remaining bones will be kept in a small box called an ark or barrow ark. Later in some cases the boxes would have designs carved into the sides and lid with an awl (A small tooling used for carving). In some cases there are other pieces of wood scattered around the box set up around the site for marker purposes. Vikings were allowed to have a sword next to their grave representing the statues of warriors and their ability to defend themselves in the afterlife. Jewellery was commonly placed into viking graves. Particularly in women. Vikings would often bring their valuable things next to their graves. The reason for this is for them to use it in the afterlife.

Here are some more interesting facts about the Norse Funeral I have discovered. Firstly the Viking era was started; it had begun in 800 CE to 1050 CE. They are known for their dead funerals and also sailing hundreds of miles into the ocean. I think that there were many people that were experiencing different stages of what they have gone through for their physical well-being (Taha Tinana), and also their taha hinengaro (mental and emotional well-being) because of the different times when someone had sadly passed away.

(Source: Link)

Lindholm Høje is known for their graves from the Vikings located in Denmark. It is estimated there are 700 graves that have been discovered throughout the area.

(Here is a photo of a viking burial scene.)

There were a number of ways that demonstrated respect towards other culture beliefs during this unit. I did by showing respect to other cultures beliefs and what they think in the afterlife. I think that everyone has their option for their cultural beliefs and we should at least respect that because there is no right nor wrong answers, it’s everyone’s beliefs and they have their answers to it.  And all of us have different perspectives for each individual. The importance of showing respect to others is to pay attention and to not say if it’s a myth. By showing these values they will appreciate what you have learnt and it would enhance your hauora because you are showing respect towards other cultures and their beliefs. Taha hinengaro is a great example because by showing that you are interested it will make  your emotions have a positive impact on the other four walls of Whare Tapa Wha (the four walls of of our mental health) It is super important to not laugh at them, or to make fun of them. Everyone is different and has their own answer. We should respect each other because learning something new might amaze you!

It is important that I take care of all areas of my hauora when I experience change, loss, or grief because it is bad if you don’t take care of your own emotions and mental health. However if nothing is being done about it then your mental health will worsen day by day. I always make sure that I am suitable and ready to take care of myself when I need to when I experience grief.

I can take care of hauora when I experience change, loss and grief by telling a trusted adult what has happened. Many people experience grief differently towards others. We should take note that the five stages of grief may be different for some people. For example someone might experience denial but already someone might be experiencing depression. Another example shown here is about your mental health, one of the four walls of Tapa Wha which are the four walls of our health. Each of these individuals has a purpose for us, For instance, taha hinengaro has a large impact on us if we don’t fix the problem. The only situation is to fix it and it will make our 3 other walls of mental health sense better for the future.

Religion -Social Studies

Hello readers.

For this week for social studies we have been working on a template about religions. Last week we had learnt about different regions. Our task for this week was create a power point showing what we have chosen for our topic. For mine I had chosen Christianity for my choice and here is what I had created.

Have a great day!

Purerehua-Science

Hello everyone.

For this week in science we are learning how to make a Purerehua. For this term currently we are learning about energies . Our task for this week was to create a Purerehua. You might ask yourself, what is a Purerehua? A Purerehua is a traditional wind instrument used by Maori’s. The reason why they had made this was because to luring lizards, summoning rain and to communicate with other people. They are also known as “Bull roarer” and they are made out of bone, wood or stone. Once you swing it it produces a loud, deep whirring sound that can be heard from a distance. The pitch changes if more or less times you spin it around. Swinging it slowly produces a power pitch but if you swing it fast it produces a higher pitch sound. And it will create the volume of the Purerehua.

Method To Making Purerehua: Firstly the materials we used were a card box, tape, scissors, string and a pencil/pen. Firstly you need to outline the shape for the Purerehua and cut it by using the scissors. Once you have got one you will need to do it 3 more times. Once you have done it you will need to stack them up together and start using your tape. If you want you could use glue but for mine I used tape to make it feel better. Once you have done that you will need to press them down. And the next step is to create a tiny hole in the top of the Purerehua. You can create the hole by piercing a hole onto it. Make sure the hole is big to fit the string inside for the next step. Now for the final step by putting the string inside the hole. After that you wrap your hand around the string and the final step is to test it! I highly recommend to spin the Purerehua first before swinging it. Once you have done that you should be able to finally hear it. It can take awhile to hear it but once you hear it you are done!

Here is the photo of my Purerehua:

Here is a video of me using it and my friend recording me.

Have a great day!

Wind Turbine-Science

Hello readers,

This week for science we are learning about different types of Renewable Sources. Our task for this week was to find out different types of renewable sources and explaining how they produce electric energy. For my one I am doing the wind turbine and how it produces electrical energy. For this I had to find some facts about wind turbine. For my one I did a power point showing about wind turbines.

Here is my slide for my model.

My power plant captures energy from the sun. It transforms this energy into wind energy which humans use to power all sorts of things. My energy source is renewable. I know this because the blades on the wind turbine produces electric energy and the more speed the blades make the more electric energy is being produced. As this moves, the energy that comes in is transformed into another type of energy called kinetic energy. After that electrical energy is being produced and after that it goes to a storage (underneath the turbine) and after that it goes straight to the power station.
